SatiisrebornasParvati,thedaughterofHimavan,kingoftheHimalayasandMainavati.Sheisalsothesisteroftheriver-goddess,Ganga.ParvatiisraisedinthehermitageoftheShivadevoteesageDadhichi,whoteachesherdevotiontoShiva.ParvatigrowsupandlikeSati,iscaptivatedbyShiva.Sheslowlyremembersherpastlife,thenwinsShivabyherausteritiesleadingtotheirmarriage.
ShivaandParvatigivebirthtoKartikeya,whoslaysthedemonTarakasuraandhisbrothers.KartikeyaisalsonominatedforthethroneoftheKingofDevasbutShivaasksIndratocontinueastheking.AfterthisKartikeyaissenttotheDakshin(south)whereheiscaredbyMeenakshiandhereheslaysthedemon(asura),Tripathwithherhelp.ThestorygoesonwiththetaleofthedestructionofTripura,belongingtotherevengefulsonsofTarakasura,whowereearliergivenboonsbyShiva.AndjustbeforethedestructionoftheTripura,ShivaandParvati'sdaughter,Ashoksundariisborn.
